15 Things I’m Doing This Mercury Retrograde Season

And how you can work with—not against—the cosmic slowdown

Happy Mercury Retrograde! …said no one ever. 😅

For the next few weeks, Mercury—the planet that governs communication, thought, travel, and technology—will appear to move backward in the sky from our perspective here on Earth. This cosmic illusion is known as Mercury Retrograde, and it’s a phenomenon that tends to cause low-key panic in spiritual and astrological circles everywhere.

Mercury Retrogrades have a reputation for causing miscommunications, tech glitches, scheduling hiccups, and travel snafus. But these external disruptions are really just invitations to turn inward.

Instead of pushing through the chaos, we’re being gently (or not-so-gently) nudged by the Universe to slow down and reflect. In fact, that’s one of the core principles behind my 12 Guiding Stars System: aligning with the natural cycles and seasons of life, rather than resisting them.

Most of our discomfort during these energetic shifts doesn’t come from change itself—it comes from our refusal to pause. And let’s be honest: many of us are so addicted to the hustle that we’re terrified of what we might discover if we actually sat with ourselves for a minute. But what if this season of slowdown is exactly what your soul ordered?

Mercury Retrograde gives us cosmic permission to take a breather. So instead of fearing it, let’s embrace it.

What to Focus on During Mercury Retrograde

Retrogrades are perfect for all the “re-” words:

🌀 Review, revise, reorganize, reflect, replenish, reconnect, reclaim.

Because this particular retrograde takes place in the fiery sign of Leo, themes of self-expression, creativity, confidence, and leadership will also be in the spotlight. Leo energy encourages us to shine from the heart—and protect what we love.

My Leo husband and I will be traveling back to his hometown during this retrograde (yes, travel is allowed—especially to places you’ve already been). The key is to avoid starting brand-new things. Instead, revisit and refine the past.

15 Ways I’m Working with Mercury Retrograde Energy

Here’s how I’m planning to honor this retrograde cycle—with presence, intention, and purpose. Use this list as inspiration for your own soulful slowdown:

1. Resolve a creative project. My book launch has been delayed several times due to distribution hiccups, but I’m trusting it will all fall into place this retrograde. It’s the perfect time to tie up loose ends and bring creative work to completion.

2. Review your finances. Check in on your bank statements, recurring subscriptions, and digital services. What still serves you—and what can be cut?

3. Reorganize your digital and physical space. Declutter your inbox, delete unused apps, return library books, and clear the clutter to invite mental clarity.

4. Restock your essentials. After tidying up, assess what needs replenishing—pantry staples, first aid supplies, or spiritual tools like candles and incense.

5. Rehome old books. Donate titles you’re finished with and make space for fresh inspiration. (Used bookstores are great for retrograde season browsing!)

6. Research something meaningful. Dig into ideas or projects you’ve been curious about. Planning, not launching, is key right now.

7. Follow up on unfinished business. Still waiting on a refund, contract, or callback? Now’s a great time to check in and move the needle.

8. Repot your plants. I’ll be giving some love to my struggling orchid—repotting it with fresh soil and a little prayer. A retrograde metaphor in itself.

9. Reconnect with old friends. Send that “thinking of you” text or invite someone out for coffee. This is a great time to rekindle meaningful bonds.

10. Revise business documents. As a coach, I’m updating my client contracts and terms. Whether you run a business or not, take time to review important forms and files.

11. Replace home maintenance items. Think HVAC filters, batteries, lightbulbs—those unsexy but essential things that keep your home running smoothly.

12. Refresh your social media or personal brand. Reevaluate your online presence. Need a LinkedIn update? Website refresh? Logo revamp? Go for it—or take a social media break altogether.

13. Backup your files and photos. Better safe than sorry! Mercury rules technology, so make sure your important data is protected.

14. Handle car maintenance. Get an oil change, rotate your tires, or check the air filters. Your vehicle (and future self) will thank you.

15. Rest, recharge, and receive. This might be the most important one. Give yourself permission to pause. Often, our manifestations come through not when we’re forcing—but when we’re open to receiving.

A Final Word

You don’t have to fear Mercury Retrograde. You just have to work with it.

Let this season be a sacred pause—a time of refinement, reflection, and renewal. And trust that, behind the scenes, the Universe is still weaving your dreams into form.
