Reimaging Your Career with Purpose

I want to ask you something: Are you truly happy with what you’re doing for a living?
It seems like a simple question, but many professionals wrestle with the answer.

According to Gallup, about 70% of Americans report being dissatisfied with their jobs. A separate 2021 study by Mental Health America found that 83% feel emotionally drained by their work, and 85% say workplace stress is hurting their mental health.
We spend more than half our waking hours working. What little time remains is swallowed up by commuting, cooking, caretaking, and errands. That leaves barely any time for rest, creativity, spiritual connection, or play. In essence, for far too many people, work has overrun their lives.
Even if we’re aware of this imbalance, we may be tempted to believe it’s “just how things are”. But it doesn’t have to be. It is absolutely possible to reimagine your career in a way that honors your energy, aligns with your purpose, and supports a more balanced life.
What If Following Your Passion Could Bring You More Happiness — and a Bigger Paycheck?
For many, the idea of genuinely loving their job may sound like a fantasy. From an early age, we’re taught to choose “practical” careers and pursue “real” jobs. But when you walk a path that doesn’t feed your soul, the cost isn’t just professional — it’s personal. It can drain your energy, dull your joy, and disconnect you from your deeper purpose. Moreover — and perhaps surprisingly — it may even affect your long-term earning potential.
Research increasingly shows that loving what you do can translate to greater success and income. A 2010 study published in the Journal of Socio-Economics found that individuals with higher job satisfaction early in their careers experienced greater income growth over time. A 2014 study from the University of Warwick revealed that happier employees are 12% more productive on average, and in some cases, up to 20% more productive. Gallup’s State of the American Workplace report highlights that engaged employees (those who love their work) are 21% more profitable and more likely to receive raises and promotions.
The takeaway? Joy at work isn’t a luxury. It’s a smart strategy for sustainable, soul-aligned success.
Try This: 3-6-9 Bullet Pointing
If you’re craving a career change but aren’t sure what your next chapter looks like, try this simple clarity exercise I call 3-6-9 Bullet Pointing. Inspired by Nikola Tesla’s belief that 3, 6, and 9 are the keys to understanding the Universe, this is a creative way to align your career goals with your soul’s desires. Here’s how it works:
1. Write down 3, 6, or 9 bullet points that describe your ideal job (e.g., remote work, meaningful impact, six-figure salary, creative freedom, work/life balance, supportive team, etc.).
2. Every morning when you wake up and every evening before going to sleep, read your list out loud.
3. Visualize it. Take a few deep breaths, close your eyes, and imagine yourself living this reality. See it. Feel it. Let it sink into your heart.
This simple ritual helps you:
· Crystallize what you truly want — not what you’ve been conditioned to settle for;
· Trigger your reticular activating system, which helps your brain recognize aligned
opportunities; and
· Strengthen your belief that this kind of life is possible.
A Fulfilling Career Starts with a Simple Mindset Shift
You don’t have to stay stuck in a career that drains you. By tuning in to what truly lights you up — and giving yourself permission to dream outside the box — you open the door to a life and livelihood that are both soulfully fulfilling and financially abundant. And it all begins with the simple willingness to imagine something different. Your next chapter is waiting, and it can be one where joy and prosperity walk hand in hand.
